Introduction

The ancient Roman arena is one of the famous Roman cultural sites in Nimes, with grandeur and elegance. The arena was originally built in the 1st century for various athletic events, but now it has become a theater. It is 21 meters high and has 2400 seats. From the outside, you can see 60 arches. It was used as a military fortress by the Visigoths in the 5th century. The total area of the arena is about 131 meters (east-west) x 100 meters (north-south). Sitting on the top floor of the arena, you can overlook the charming scenery of the entire city of Nimes. In addition, there is a wide open square next to the arena, which is very large and faces the Nimes train station across the street.
