Introduction
In 1839, to solve the drought problem in Marseille, an arduous project was undertaken to divert the Durance River to Marseille. The project involved 85 kilometers of canals and 18 aqueducts. To commemorate this precious water source, the authorities decided to build a palace above the reservoir called Château d'If. Designed by Henry Esperandieu, who also designed the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, the construction of Château d'If was not completed until 1869 due to financial issues.
Château d'If is a magnificent building with an arched structure, displaying a blend of Baroque, Roman, and Oriental architectural elements. It features a central sculpture group and fountain with the theme of "Ode to Water," as well as two museums at the end of each gallery, namely the Fine Arts Museum and the Natural History Museum. Behind the entrance of Château d'If, there is a botanical garden and an astronomical observatory. The location is often used as a backdrop for wedding photoshoots. If you enjoy traveling with your wedding dress, you can also try it here. Address Parc Longchamp 13004 Marseille, France
