Introduction

Saint John's Castle, built in 1660 by Louis XIV, is located at the entrance of the Old Port of Marseille. Although the castle appears to be a defensive fortress, its actual function was to supervise and manage the city. The castle was also used as a prison. The cannons inside the castle do not point towards the outside of the city, but towards the inside. Today, Saint John's Castle has been transformed into an exhibition hall and museum, where visitors can climb to the top of the fortress and enjoy the beautiful view, overlooking the entire Old Port. It is a must-see location for photography enthusiasts.
