Located in the north of Essen, Germany, the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is a historically significant industrial monument and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001. In order to preserve and reuse this decommissioned industrial heritage, Zollverein Development Corporation established organizations such as the Zollverein Foundation and Industrial Monument Historical and Cultural Preservation Foundation.
