Introduction
When you cross the River Regnitz and enter the old town center of Bamberg, you not only pass through Bamberg's most charming landmark, the Gothic Old Town Hall, but also step into the rich cultural world of Germany's history. The Old Town Hall, built in 1462, showcases stunning Gothic architecture with intricate sculptures and vibrant murals (including a little angel sticking its leg out of the wall). Situated on the River Regnitz and bridge, it resembles a majestic ship, making it highly captivating. The Old Town Hall was constructed on an artificial island because the bishop at the time did not want his territory divided for the construction of a town hall. Therefore, the residents decided to build this structure in the middle of the River Regnitz and clearly succeeded. The southern part of the Old Town Hall is built with a timber frame, making it quite fascinating, and we can enjoy the best view from the small bridge leading to Geyerswörth Palace. Additionally, the Old Town Hall houses a beautiful exhibition of Ludwigs porcelain, showcasing the "Splendor of Baroque". It is not only a magnificent building brimming with history and culture but also an important place to explore Bamberg's historical background and cultural heritage. Opening hours Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Transportation Bus lines 904/906/910/915/916/938, get off at Am Kranen station, walk south along the river for 50 meters and cross the bridge; or walk approximately 1.5 kilometers from the train station.
