Introduction

The landmark building in Constance — the Imperia Statue, is named after the story depicted in the short story "La belle Imperia" by French writer Balzac. The story tells the tale of a woman who is a renowned prostitute in Rome, navigating her way through the royal and aristocratic circles during the Council of Constance to gain benefits and satisfaction. This story deeply captivated the creators of the statue, who presented the image of Imperia to the public. In this statue, Imperia holds up her outstretched arms, with her left hand supporting the Pope and her right hand supporting the Emperor, seemingly recalling the struggles between imperial and political powers in history, while also expressing a sense of harmony and unity, attracting numerous visitors.
