Introduction

St. Bartholomew's Church is a landmark located on the west bank of the Hirschau Peninsula in Lake Königssee, known for its unique and representative Baroque style. Its history can be traced back to the 12th century and it took several centuries to evolve into its current form in the 16th century. The small and exquisite chapel features a red dome in the beautiful shape of an onion. The floor plan of the chapel imitates Salzburg Cathedral, and the altar in the apse is dedicated to St. Bartholomew, St. Catherine, and St. James respectively. Additionally, the apse is divided into symmetrical segments, which adds to the chapel's sense of unity and completeness. The painting work was done by Salzburg artist Joseph Schmidt. Getting here requires either taking a boat or embarking on a long journey, but you will find the place well worth a visit.
