Introduction
Located in the heart of the old town of Nuremberg, the main market square is the gathering place for traditional markets and the lively center of the Christmas market. The square is surrounded by numerous old buildings, the most famous of which is the Nuremberg Church of Our Lady, built in the 14th century. This Gothic church has a beautiful facade and an ancient bell tower. At noon every day, the little figures on the mechanical clock "Männleinlaufen" come out and rotate, representing the Holy Roman Emperor and the elector of the empire. At the northwest corner of the square, there is a beautiful fountain 19 meters high, decorated with 40 statues, including electors, prophets, and mythological figures, representing the worldview of the Holy Roman Empire. In the southwest corner of the railing, there is a brass ring, which is said to grant wishes if turned three times.
