Introduction

The German Cathedral, located on Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin, Germany, is a historic church. Initially built by architect Giovanni Simonetti in 1705, it was later renovated by Carl von Gontard in 1785, adding a dome tower. Despite its name, the cathedral has never been home to a bishop. During World War II, the church was destroyed, but it was rebuilt and reopened from 1977 to 1988.
