Designed and built by Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel between 1823 and 1830, the building features neoclassical style and is one of the oldest museums on the Museum Island. The museum, currently part of the Berlin State Museums (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin), primarily showcases artworks from ancient Greece and Rome. In 1999, as part of the Museum Island, the Berlin Old Museum was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
