Introduction
St. Michael's Church, located in Munich, Germany, is a Jesuit church built between 1583 and 1597 by Duke William V of Bavaria as a spiritual center against the Reformation. As one of the largest Renaissance-style churches north of the Alps, it has had a significant influence on the development of early Baroque architecture in southern Germany.
The church's façade is grand and magnificent, adorned with numerous statues of members of the Wittelsbach dynasty. Between the two entrances, there is a colossal bronze statue created by the artist Hubert Gerhard, depicting St. Michael the Archangel triumphing over the devil in battle for faith.
