Introduction

St. Peter's Church, as the oldest church in Munich's inner city, has a history dating back to before the founding of Munich in 1158. Around the church, monks began their residence and preaching in the 8th century. By the late 12th century, a Bavarian Romanesque church was rebuilt, but was soon destroyed by fire in 1327, before which it had been expanded in the Gothic style. The church was rebuilt again in 1368, adding a 92-meter-high Renaissance spire and a Baroque choir stall, adding new elements to the church.
