Introduction

A Gothic castle is the largest in Europe and one of the largest brick castles in the world, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is located about 40 kilometers away from Gdansk and can be visited in a day. The castle was built in 1274 and served as the headquarters of the famous Teutonic Knights during the Middle Ages. It is situated on a high ground by the Nogat River and consists of three connected fortresses. It is a representative symbol of the historical conflicts between Poland and Germany (Prussia).
