Introduction

The Krakow City Hall Tower is a prominent building on the Old Town Square. The tower we see today is actually a remnant of the old City Hall, which was demolished in 1820. The cellar beneath the tower used to be a prison, and it still houses medieval torture chambers. This Gothic tower, made of brick and stone, was built in the 13th century and stands at a height of 70 meters. Despite being tilted 55 centimeters after a storm in 1703, it remains intact. The top observation terrace is now open to visitors, but they must climb 100 steep stairs to enjoy the breathtaking view. At the entrance of the tower, two carved stone lions from the early 19th century stand guard. The city's coat of arms and Poland's emblem decorate the gate above. Today, the City Hall Tower serves as a branch of the Krakow Historical Museum.
