Introduction

This building is one of the oldest castles in Europe. It was plundered by the Norwegians in the year 800. Later, the castle was rebuilt as an important Roman Empire defensive fort. The famous painter Rubens lived here in his later years. In modern times, the castle has been transformed into the National Maritime Museum of Belgium.
