Introduction

More than a hundred years ago, Hallstatt was not well known to the world. It was just a small town with salt mining as its main industry. Today, the well-preserved salt mine takes you back in time, allowing you to explore the deep tunnels where miners worked and even try the exciting miner's slide. The salt mine is located on the mountain above Hallstatt town, and you can either hike up or take a cable car. Standing on the mountain and overlooking the lake, the scenery is magnificent with endless views.
