Introduction
The Franciscan Church is one of the oldest and most distinctive churches in Salzburg, built around 1220. Like Salzburg Cathedral, it has a long history, carrying the early Christian history of Salzburg. Although these two churches differ significantly in style and purpose, they are both important cultural heritage sites in Salzburg. Salzburg Cathedral is a Baroque-style bishop's church mainly used for religious ceremonies, while the Franciscan Church is a narrow Gothic-style church that provides people with a quiet place for prayer.
