Introduction

Located on the eastern hilltop of Salzburg's Castle, Nonnberg Abbey is a historic monastery with a long history. It is a Benedictine monastery established in 714 and is the oldest existing women's monastery in the German-speaking world. This abbey gained fame from the movie "The Sound of Music" and is the first scene where Maria appears.
