Introduction
St. Peter's Monastery, built in 696, is a rectangular Romanesque church with a heavy cloister of trees on a hillside designed to strengthen Christian faith. Monks still practice here. St. Peter's Monastery is the only Romanesque church in Salzburg, with many religious scenes painted on the ceiling. Mozart conducted his Mass here and his wife sang soprano. Every December 5th, the monastery plays Mozart's "Requiem" to commemorate the great musician. The famous St. Peter's Cemetery is also located nearby.
