Introduction

St. Stephen's Cathedral is a Gothic cathedral with twin towers, and it was the site of the assassination attempt on Emperor Franz Joseph. Miraculously, the emperor survived. In honor of this important event, this new Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral was built as a monument to patriotism and loyalty to the imperial ruler.
