Introduction

The University of Vienna was founded on March 12, 1365. It is one of the oldest German-language universities and one of the largest schools in Central Europe. It is also one of the largest universities in the German-speaking world. Today, approximately 74,000 students are enrolled at the University of Vienna, which offers 180 degree programs. The university was originally founded by Duke Rudolf IV and his brothers Albert III and Leopold III. It was the second university in the Holy Roman Empire and the second German-language university in the world (the first being the University of Prague), modeled after the University of Paris.
