Introduction

Vienna International Centre, also known as the United Nations City, is the third largest UN office complex, after the headquarters in New York and Geneva. It houses various UN agencies, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, among others. The complex, located on the banks of the Danube River, accommodates over 4,000 staff members. The decision to establish the Vienna International Centre was made by Austria in 1973, aiming to strengthen its international presence. In addition to the UN city, Vienna is also home to the headquarters of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The Vienna International Centre offers guided tours for individual visitors without prior booking.
