Introduction

To promote the cultural, educational, social, and economic development of central and southern Taiwan, the Executive Yuan approved the establishment of the National Palace Museum Southern Branch in Taibao City, Chiayi County on December 15, ROC 93. The museum aims to become an Asian art and cultural museum. Originally scheduled to open in 2008, the project faced construction disputes and was put on hold. In October 22, ROC 99, the renovation plan was restarted after the site was flooded with water up to 10.3 meters during Typhoon Morakot. The construction was undertaken by the Construction and Planning Agency, while the exhibition planning focused on the museum's rich collection and international loans, organizing various exciting exhibitions. The museum will fulfill the various functions of a modern museum, including collection, research, preservation, education, exhibition, recreation, leisure, and cultural creativity, aiming to achieve a balanced cultural development between the north and the south.
