Introduction

On Ethnic Road, south of Chikan Tower in Tainan City, you can find a martial temple called Si-Dian Wu Temple. It is one of the temples dedicated to Guan Gong, one of two martial temples in Tainan City, the other being Kai-Ji Wu Temple. The two temples are about a hundred meters apart and are known by locals as the "Great Guan Di Temple" and the "Little Guan Di Temple", respectively. Si-Dian Wu Temple is the oldest martial temple in Tainan, built during the Ming and Zheng Dynasty to worship Yue Fei and Guan Gong. After Taiwan was taken over by the Qing Dynasty, it gradually became dedicated to Guan Gong, and was later recognized as one of the three generations of the Guan Di temples. The temple was rebuilt with a new main hall and entrance and became the official martial temple, hence it became known as Si-Dian Wu Temple. In addition, the temple is also home to "The Matchmaker Under the Moon", one of the three major love shrines in Taiwan. Si-Dian Wu Temple, also known as the Great Guan Di Temple or the Great Martial Temple, is located on Yongfu Road, adjacent to the Grand Temple of Heaven and across from Chikan Tower. The temple consists of three sections with a narrow and deep structure, characterized by two hallways with three interconnected portals. It is the only temple in Taiwan with such a "double worship hall" pattern and is quite impressive. Although official worship ceremonies were not held during Japanese rule in Taiwan, Si-Dian Wu Temple remained the center of Guan Gong's martial faith, and in 1983 was declared a National First-Class Monument by the Ministry of Interior.
