Zhutian Village, Fuli Township, Hualien County, Taiwan
4.2
Introduction
The Sixty Stone Mountain is located on the eastern side of Zhu Tian Village in Fuli Township, Hualien County, in the Huadong Rift Valley. It is part of the coastal mountain range. This is the place where sunflowers bloom abundantly every year in July and August. Visitors can wander through this golden sea of flowers and experience the beauty of nature. The name "Sixty Stone Mountain" has two different explanations. One theory is that during the Japanese colonial period, the average rice yield per acre of paddy fields was around four or fifty "stones" (a unit of measurement used at the time), but in this newly cultivated area, one acre of paddy fields could yield sixty stones of rice. Therefore, the locals named this place "Sixty Stone Mountain." Another theory is that during the Japanese colonial era, Taiwan was the world's leading producer of camphor, but the once dense camphor forests were completely cut down within a few years. On this barren slope, only about sixty large stones remained. That's why this place was named "Sixty Stone Mountain." Address Zhutian Village, Fuli Township, Hualien County, Taiwan
