Introduction

The coastal mountain range along the Hualien-Taitung line is close to the eastern coast of the Pacific Ocean and, together with the Central Mountain Range, creates the beautiful high mountains and Hualien-Dong Valley of Taiwan. This area is prone to earthquakes and is traversed by the Provincial Highway No. 9 and the Eastern Railroad, forming a "green corridor". The Hualien-Dong Valley, approximately 150 kilometers long, starts from Hualien in the north and stretches to Taitung in the south. It is characterized by a dense water system, lush forests, and diverse rural landscapes. From canola flower fields, fireflies, rice paddies, and cosmos flowers, to tea plantations, hot springs, and pastures, this is a great place to experience the beauty of Taiwan's mountains and waters. The establishment of the Hualien-Dong Valley National Scenic Area in 1996 has played a positive role in conserving the ecology and tourism resources here and developing the tourism industry in the eastern region. In addition to leisurely countryside activities, it also offers intellectual and educational experiences. The attractions along the entire route include Beinan Liji Area, Chulu Area, Luye Yancheng Area, Guanshan Haiduan Area, Chishang Fuli Area, Juli Zhuoxi Area, Ruisui Wanrong Area, Guangfu Fenglin Area, and Shoufeng Area.
