Introduction
Lilau Square is located north of Barra Hill in Macau. It is surrounded by old buildings and has been recognized as an important attraction in Macau due to its architectural, historical, and cultural significance. The square was included in the World Heritage List in 2005 as part of the Historic Centre of Macau.
"Lilau" in Portuguese means "mountain spring", and in the past, it served as a major water source in Macau. Being close to the Inner Harbor, Lilau also became one of the earliest settlement areas for the Portuguese in Macau. A folk legend among the Portuguese in Macau tells that those who drink the water from Lilau will either never forget Macau and settle there, or they will return someday. In this beautiful square, you can feel the traces of history and the unique cultural atmosphere.
