Introduction

Cao Dai is an emerging religion in Vietnam, originating in the 1920s. It is the third largest religion in Vietnam, after Buddhism and Catholicism. The name "Cao Dai" means "Highest Existence" and is regarded as the center and ruler of the entire universe. The headquarters of Cao Dai is located in Tay Ninh Province, northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, which is also its main area of propagation. The doctrine combines various thoughts from Buddhism, Christianity, Taoism, and Confucianism, with worship of figures such as Confucius, Laozi, Newton, Shakespeare, Gautama Buddha, Jesus, and Guanyin. The Cao Dai Temple is the main temple of this religion, blending traditional Chinese-style carved dragons and upturned eaves with Gothic-style tall spires, highlighting the characteristic of religious fusion. At a higher position in the Cao Dai Temple, there is the "Divine Eye" symbolizing the watchful eye of the Divine Eye over its people. During the chanting ceremony, followers wear different colored robes, with red representing authority (Confucianism), yellow representing virtue (Buddhism), blue representing tolerance (Taoism), and white being the color worn by the devotees. In summary, Cao Dai is a unique Vietnamese religion that integrates diverse philosophical systems and has distinctive architectural styles and color symbolism.
