Introduction

Yad Vashem, established by Israeli law in 1953, commemorates the six million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. Yad Vashem, meaning "a memorial and a name" in Hebrew, is a site that includes a memorial, a historical museum, an art gallery, a Hall of Names, an archives, a synagogue, an education center, and a gathering place called the Valley of Destroyed Communities.
