Introduction
The Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall, is one of the holiest sites in Judaism. It is located on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. The wall was originally part of the First Temple, which was built by King Solomon around 965 BCE. However, the temple was destroyed by the Babylonians and later by the Romans. The Second Temple was rebuilt by the Jews but was also destroyed by the Romans in the 1st century CE, leaving only the wall standing.
For thousands of years, Jews have come to the Western Wall to pray and mourn, as it represents the pain of exile and the longing for the return to Jerusalem. Therefore, it is also known as the Wailing Wall.
