Introduction
The Grand Palace Ruins, also known as the Old Palace Ruins, were the center of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, established by King U-Thong in the 14th century. The ruins are located to the north of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, connected closely with it, and to the west of Wat Thammikarat. Construction of the palace began in 1350 and was expanded northwards with the approval of King Borommaracha II in the mid-15th century. Many palaces and pavilions were added by successive kings, making it an important symbol of the ancient palace. Unfortunately, in 1767, the palace was severely damaged during the Burmese invasion of Thailand, and only the Trimuk Pavilion remains intact. The Trimuk Pavilion was built during the reign of King Rama IV or King Mongkut. Currently, the complete palace structure cannot be witnessed, only the ruins and the well-preserved Trimuk Pavilion.
