Introduction

This temple was built on the site of the cremation of the first king, and is a magnificent treasure among many relics. According to the chronicles, in 1369, the second king of Ayutthaya, King Ramathibodi II, chose this place as a cremation ground for his father. The corn-shaped pagoda seen by visitors today was built during the 15th century by King Borommatrailokkanat when he renovated the temple. The pagoda is decorated with Garuda, Naga, and walking Buddha statues. There are also several other temples and a main hall surrounding the pagoda, forming a corridor of stone Buddha statues. The history here is extremely rich and is an indispensable part of Ayutthaya's architectural history. The temple has undergone construction and restoration by every king of the Ayutthaya Dynasty. According to documents, it was also the cremation ground of King Uthong, and his remains are buried in the temple. In 1970, a bronze statue of King Uthong was erected on the north square to commemorate his achievements. Visitors can not only see many different styles of pagoda architecture, but also enjoy the beautiful scenery of the temple reflected in the nearby Lily Pond. Ayutthaya has a long history, and the temples and pagodas are also very large in scale, making it worth a visit at any time. The temple is open from 08:00 to 18:00, and the ticket price is 50 baht.
