Introduction

Wat Chedi Luang is famous for its impressive large pagoda located at the southern end of the Old City in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The temple was built in 1411 and is one of the six major temples in Chiang Mai, as well as one of the most revered temples alongside Wat Phra Singh. The entrance is decorated with snakes and peacocks, and there is a gigantic Buddha statue inside the temple. The magnificent square-shaped pagoda behind the main hall was built in 1411 and has been expanded several times to reach a height of 90 meters. Unfortunately, the pinnacle of the pagoda collapsed during a major earthquake in 1545, revealing the golden Buddha image inside. Despite the destruction caused by the earthquake, it remains one of the most magnificent architectural structures in Chiang Mai.
