Introduction

A temple in Thailand with Chinese architectural influence, this temple is located in the northeastern part of Kao San Road. It was commissioned by the king and overseen by Prince Mongkut. The temple holds historical significance as it was the first temple where members of the royal family resided as monks. Many Thai kings have practiced here, and it serves as a religious center for the Theravada sect, known for its strict adherence to rules and regulations. The temple has a distinct Chinese imprint in its architecture, and the murals inside were painted by the renowned Thai monk artist Kruaing Koon with the incorporation of Western artistic styles. The temple houses several statues, some of which have been damaged, but the ones that remain have stood the test of time. Exiting the temple, you will come across a Buddhist bookstore along Bamrung Road, where you can find English versions of Buddhist literature. Do note that due to its special royal status, the main hall is generally not open to the public except on certain Buddhist holidays, and visitors are advised to dress appropriately.
