Introduction
Assumption Cathedral, built in 1821, is a Romanesque brick building designed by a French architect. After multiple reconstructions, the church now features a relatively tall rectangular structure with red brick walls complemented by surrounding white buildings, with a large square tower wing serving as the main entrance. The interior is lavishly decorated, with the highlight being the exquisite blue barrel vault ceiling adorned with golden star patterns. Photography is not allowed inside.
Located behind the East Asia Company Building, the cathedral faces a tree-lined pedestrian square, which also showcases several European-style buildings. These include the modern Assumption University, Assumption Convent, Neoclassical Catholic Mission, and the Renaissance-style Catholic Center situated along the river. Students can be seen leaving school, while the Shangri-La hotel can be seen in the distance. Address 40 Oriental Alley, Charoen Krung Road
