Door to Hell, Eternal Flames in the Desert Night

4.4

Introduction

About 10 kilometers north of Dawazha Village, there is an astonishing natural phenomenon. In 1971, Soviet geologists accidentally discovered an underground cave filled with natural gas while drilling. Due to the collapse of a piece of soil, the cave formed a huge hole with a diameter of about 50-100 meters. However, in order to prevent toxic gases from leaking outside, they decided to ignite the leaked natural gas. Since then, the flames at the mouth of the cave have never been extinguished. Because of this amazing and mysterious phenomenon, this place is called "Door to Hell" by local residents.
