Introduction

Anantha Samakhom Palace, also known as the Old Parliament House, is a grand white Italian Renaissance-style building adorned with colorful marble decorations and murals depicting the evolution of Thai history. In the front courtyard, there is a statue of King Rama V on horseback, a wise monarch who actively promoted modernization and education in Thailand. The Old Parliament House was commissioned by King Rama V of Thailand, known for his architectural talents, and served as the influential legislative assembly within the palace, marking an important chapter in the history of the Rattanakosin Dynasty. During the reign of King Rama VII, Thailand implemented a democratic political system, and the palace was converted into the Parliament House. Later, a new Parliament House was built behind the Old Parliament House, which was then transformed into a museum. The celebration of King Rama IX's 60th anniversary of ascension to the throne was held at the Old Parliament House, with 25 monarchs and royal family members from 29 constitutional monarchies around the world coming together to offer their congratulations and blessings. Inside the museum, precious Thai national treasures and craftsmanship are displayed, including artwork made from beetle shells, carved teakwood royal barges, gem-encrusted beds, and exquisite gold and silverware used to entertain royalty during the celebration of King Rama IX's 60th anniversary. Each piece is crafted with exceptional skill and is truly awe-inspiring.
