Introduction
Mt. Asahidake is the highest active volcano in Hokkaido, with an elevation of 2,290 meters. It is located in the Daisetsuzan National Park in Kamikawa-cho, Asahikawa. The mountain is known for its vertical distribution of alpine plants, similar to the main peak of Mt. Changbai in Northeast China. In July, the mountain is covered in wildflowers, creating a natural alpine garden, while autumn is the best time to admire the colorful foliage.
For safety reasons due to occasional bear sightings, it is not recommended to hike from the base of the mountain. Visitors can take a cable car from the "Sanroku Station" at the base to the "Sawamizu Station" at an altitude of 1,600 meters to enjoy the breathtaking views of Mt. Asahidake along the snow-covered ridge. In summer and autumn, visitors can hike to the scenic Zaimoku-ike Pond, while in winter, they can enjoy skiing on the 3,000-meter-long snow slopes, experiencing the thrill of Hokkaido's skiing.
If you want to relax in hot springs, there are onsen accommodations available in the Asahidake Onsen area near the "Sanroku Station", or you can simply return to Asahikawa. Mt. Asahidake offers magnificent scenery throughout the year, making it an excellent destination for tourism. Address Kamikawa Town, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido
