Introduction
In 1859, with the opening of Yokohama Port, Yamate became a settlement for foreigners and many Western-style mansions were built. Today, seven historic buildings are still preserved, showcasing the foreign culture of the time. These buildings are divided into three areas, including Yamate 111, known as the "Yokohama City British House" in Harbor View Park, and Yamate 234, known as the "Ehrismann Residence, Berrick Hall" near Yamate Park, which is one of the best-preserved buildings. In addition, Bluff 18 in the Yamate Italian Garden, which used to be the Italian Consulate during the Meiji era, is also an important destination for visitors. These important cultural heritage sites reflect the influence of foreign culture during Yokohama Port's opening, and each building has its own unique historical story. Some of the buildings also have coffee shops, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of history in a leisurely and comfortable environment and taste the coffee culture of the time. Every December, an event called the "World Christmas" is held here, with decorations based on Christmas cultures of countries such as the UK, France, and the USA, attracting many people to visit. Here, visitors can not only experience the cultural heritage of Yokohama's modern history but also feel the rich cultures and historical backgrounds of various countries.
