Introduction

The Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall was built in 1909 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port. Throughout the years, the memorial hall has withstood the test of time, surviving the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and undergoing repairs in 1927. In the later stages of World War II, the memorial hall was fortunate to escape the devastation caused by Allied bombings and the fate of being transformed into a modern skyscraper. Today, the Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall still retains its historical charm, serving as a rare and valuable historic architectural landmark.
