Introduction

Teine Lake is an arched concrete reservoir located in the Minami-ku ward of Sapporo City, built in 1972 to control the floodwaters of the Fuping River and generate hydroelectric power. The reservoir is 102.5 meters high and can hold the equivalent of 30 Sapporo Domes. Teine Lake is located within the Shikotsu-Toya National Park and can only be accessed by hiking or taking an electric bus from the entrance. General vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles are prohibited to protect the environment. The steep terrain around the reservoir creates spectacular scenery that complements the sightseeing water release. The lake is surrounded by green water and picturesque scenery, turning into a stunning red leaf spot during the autumn season, making it a popular spot among the residents of Sapporo. Additionally, Teine Lake has been selected by the Forestry Agency as one of the "Water Source Forest 100 Selections" and "Dam and Lake 100 Selections".
