Introduction
Nagoya Port Aquarium is located at the Garden Pier in Nagoya City's Minato Ward. With its unique metallic ball-shaped architecture, it is one of the largest urban aquariums in the world and covers the largest area in Japan. The aquarium consists of two main buildings, the South and North buildings.
The South building focuses on the theme of Antarctic travel and showcases the ecological environments of five different seas, from the Sea of Japan to the Antarctic Sea, following the route of the observation ship Fuji. The third floor features an IMAX theater with marine films.
The North building, on the second and third floors, displays various large marine mammals such as dolphins, killer whales, and beluga whales. Visitors can observe their daily training, behavior, and performances according to the schedule, and even have a chance to interact with dolphins. The main water tank in the viewing area, equipped with high-definition image devices, offers a world-class experience that truly amazes visitors with the beauty of marine life.
With an additional fee of 400 yen, visitors can enjoy access to both the South and North buildings, as well as other attractions like the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium and the observation ship Fuji—an excellent value. However, please note that due to the lengthy visit time, ticket sales are limited to the morning. After exploring the various exhibits, visitors can dine and shop at the nearby Jetty shopping mall, or take a ride on the largest observation wheel in the Chubu region to enjoy the scenic view of the sea before heading home.
