Introduction

Shofukuji Temple is the location of Osu Kannon, one of the three major Kannon statues in Japan, located in Nagoya. The temple was built after Tokugawa Ieyasu established the castle, and was relocated from the Osu Village in Mino Province. Shofukuji Temple is an important cultural heritage site, with over 15,000 important sutra texts, including four national treasure-level books. Therefore, Shofukuji Temple is not only one of the three major sutra repositories in Japan, but also one of the temples of the three imperial libraries.
