Introduction

Meiji Jingu Gaien is a Western-style garden located between Shinjuku and Minato wards in Tokyo, with the aim of preserving the achievements of Emperor Meiji. It is called the "Outer Garden" in contrast to the Meiji Jingu's Inner Garden in Yoyogi. As it is under the management of Meiji Jingu, it is also considered part of the shrine. Unlike the Shinto-style buildings of Meiji Jingu Inner Garden, the characteristic of the Outer Garden is "Western-style" architecture. It is commonly referred to as "Jingu Gaien", and also known as the "forest of the shrine." In addition to having many plants and the famous ginkgo tree avenue, this spacious garden also has architectural facilities such as the National Stadium and Meiji Jingu Baseball Stadium (Jingu Stadium).
