In its history, it has been burned down several times, especially during the Honno-ji Incident in 1582 when Akechi Mitsuhide rebelled against Oda Nobunaga, resulting in unprecedented destruction. As a result, the temple has gone through a difficult development process, being destroyed and rebuilt. After the Kinmon Incident in 1864, Honno-ji was abandoned for more than a hundred years.
