Introduction
Kuanyinji Temple was originally a praying place of the Tokugawa shogunate, and later six members of the Tokugawa family were buried here. According to the belief of Onmyodo, Kuanyinji Temple was built in the position of the Ghost Gate of Edo Castle and, like the Enryakuji Temple in Kyoto, was a treasure temple guarding Edo. Since the 17th century, the abbot of Kuanyinji Temple has always been a member of the imperial family. However, in the Battle of Ueno in 1868, important buildings such as the Karan enshrined in the temple were burned down. Now, the temple buildings such as the Kuro-mon Gate, the Monjudo Hall, and the Hokkaido Hall have been reconstructed and restored. Address 1-14-11 Sakuragi, Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo
