Introduction

Zojoji Temple, located in Shiba Park, Minato Ward, Tokyo, Japan, is a Jodo Buddhist temple. Its full name is San'en-zan Zōjō-ji. In 1590, Tokugawa Ieyasu became the new lord of the temple and moved here. Since then, the temple, along with Kaneiji Temple, has served as the family temple for the Tokugawa shogunate. The temple covers an area of 85,000 square meters and includes a cemetery where the tombs of six successive generations of the Tokugawa shoguns are located.
