Introduction
This is the center of the old city before the construction of Angkor Thom. The bridge over the moat tells the mythological story of the churning of the ocean of milk by the asuras and devas. There are 27 kneeling statue on each side of the bridge, representing the asuras and devas. The South Gate, located on the main road to Angkor Thom, has been restored and some replicas of the original carvings are preserved. Some statues have been stolen, with faces and heads being damaged or restored, and some statues have cracks or are incomplete. The bridge structure is somewhat damaged but still intact. The water flow has been intercepted to protect the stone bridge. Address South Gate, Siem Reap, Cambodia
