Introduction
San Pedro Fortress is one of the oldest forts in the Philippines, located next to the port alongside Fort San Diego. Originally built to defend against Muslim raids in the southern Philippines, it is one of the first structures established by the Spanish invaders. During World War II, San Pedro Fortress played a crucial role in resisting the Japanese forces, and in the American colonial era, it served as officers' quarters. Today, San Pedro Fortress has been converted into classrooms for a school.
Beside the pier, the San Pedro Battery was the first Spanish stronghold in Cebu, which was later transformed into a memorial park. San Pedro Fortress also houses a museum, where ancient Spanish galleons and art treasures recovered from the sunken ship San Diego are exhibited.
