Introduction
Museum in San Diego Fort, located in the Spanish Royal City, was originally a red brick barracks built in 1593, serving as a dwelling for soldiers. After being destroyed during World War II, the present museum was completed in 1953, showcasing and collecting materials and items related to José Rizal's life. Rizal was imprisoned in a solitary cell in San Diego Fort from November 3, 1896, until the morning of December 29, 1896. The museum exhibits a model of the prison cell at that time. In his final moments, Rizal wrote "Mi Último Adiós" and hid the poem inside an alcohol lamp, secretly brought out of the cell by his sister. Rizal was brought to the temporary prayer site in the prison at 6 am on December 29, and was executed at 7:03 am on the following morning. The museum commemorates and pays tribute to Rizal's life and immortal spirit. Address Fort Santiago, Cabildo, Intramuros, Fifth District, Manila, Metro Manila, 1002, Philippines
